District Running Collective (DRC) has teamed up with the great folks from Broccoli City to create "Run Green", the official Broccoli City Fest 5k Run. The run will kickoff the 3rd annual Broccoli City Festival in Washington, DC. RunGreen is sure to set the tone for what will be a very eventful day at BCFest 2015!
RunGREEN5k kicks off on April 25th, and you're invited to take part in the festivities. St. Elizabeth's East Gateway is our meeting spot for a day of fun and excitement. Come one, come all, bring a guest, and hang loose. This is going to be epic!
Course Route
This is an ‘unofficial’ 5k because streets won’t be closed off. If you have been to our Wednesday runs (6:30pm @ The Coupe), you know we are city runners: we look both ways, follow the traffic rules and get our miles in. And most importantly, let’s cheer each other on! It’s not done until the last runner finishes
Check-in Time
Check-in will begin at 9:00am and end at 10:15am so, please, PLEASE, (please!) be there on time. The run will commence promptly at 10:30am after we check-in everyone who registered.
A portion of each #BCFest5k registration sold will be used to help fund an urban garden in a local under utilized and under served community. The monies raised will be used to purchase building materials, garden signage, gardening supplies, and much more.
Once the DRC urban garden location has finalized, DRC and The Green Scheme will plan a service day inviting everyone to bring the garden to life!
The Green Scheme seeks to engage and empower communities where poor health outcomes and poor environmental conditions are most prevalent to promote healthy living in conjunction with environmental justice issues. Green Scheme exists to promote sustainable living for the prosperity of our communities and planet in ways that are relevant and relatable.
Grammy award-winning singer Erykah Badu – is headlining this year's Broccoli City Festival (#BCFest) on Saturday,
April 25th at Gateway DC. Other performers will include Joey Bada$$, Kaytranada, Tink, Kali Uchis, and more artists TBA. The Earth Day celebration will also feature live art, food, fitness activities and vendors.
